MUNDANE DISTRACTIONS
Comic shop shopping
12th-May-2008 08:56 pm
OK fellow comic readers who actually read my journal. I need some recommendations for internet stores to buy comics from. My shop didn't order for two months in a row again (who the hell knows why) and I need to figure out a store that has proven to be dependable and consistent when it comes to establishing a subscription/pull file. This is my only option now. Once I could excuse the owner as having something major that happened that caused a distraction. This is just straight up poor business practice now.

Hopefully one of his employees can get his own store off the ground sometime in the near future, but that takes a lot of work and who knows how much more work it might be in today's financial world.

Anyway, recommendations please. Right now I'm thinking Midtown Comics as they've done a pretty good job of filling the holes I had the last time.

Oh, and sites/methods you use to figure out future orders would be great too (even if it's just ordering a copy of Previews).

I think that www.milehighcomics.com is supposed to be a really good site. ^^ I'm on their mailing list even though of course, it doesn't do me a lot of good out here. ^^;;

From 2001 'til 2007, I used Midtown Comics and they only screwed up one comic in all that time, and they corrected the error.

I would generally have my comics on Friday or Saturday of the same week, so I wasn't that far behind. I would suspect being on the other side of the continent, that might differ for you.

I chose them because they didn't require you to buy your books all at once, two months in advance, and at the time, that just wouldn't have been possible. You can set up subscriptions, or just by week to week. I've found them to be very flexible, reasonably priced shipping, and you even get free bags and boards.

Even now, they're still used by me to compile my list every week, since they're the first to have a complete, and accurate list. And as for Previews, you can buy that through them if you want. I think a text version is available on Previews' site as well.
